Lameness

Lameness is a common occurrence in pleasure and performance horses alike. The veterinarians at PPVS can work up lameness cases by watching the horse move (in hand, on the lunge line or under tack), examining and palpating the limbs, applying hoof testers, and performing joint flexion tests. Additional methods of diagnosing lameness that are available include local or regional anesthesia (joint or nerve blocks), x-rays, and tendon ultrasound.
